Lake Cleaning & Rejuvenation, Dubai
Transforming JLT Lake into a Cleaner, Healthier Ecosystem with Biotic’s Bioenzyme Solutions
Introduction
Biotic Organic Solutions had the opportunity to lead a large-scale lake cleaning and rejuvenation project at the iconic Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) Lake in Dubai. The lake had long been suffering from issues such as sludge accumulation, high TDS and COD/BOD levels, foul odour, and microbial contamination. Leveraging our bioenzyme-based approach, we executed a comprehensive clean-up and ecological restoration. The scope of work included desilting, sludge treatment, water quality improvement, odour control, and the creation of artificial islands to support ecological balance. Our proprietary enzyme formulations were used to restore the lake naturally — without chemicals — and a transformation video attached with this case study showcases the extraordinary outcomes.
Key Challenges Faced
- Thick sludge and silt deposits across the lakebed reducing water volume and flow
- High Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), COD and BOD levels, indicating severe organic and chemical pollution
- Persistent foul odour affecting the surrounding community
- Rapid bacterial growth and algal blooms due to stagnant water and nutrient imbalance
- Aesthetic and ecological degradation, with minimal aquatic biodiversity
- Requirement for a sustainable, non-chemical approach due to Dubai’s environmental regulations
Biotic’s Organic Solution
Biotic deployed a specialised combination of bioenzyme and microbial products, tailored to tackle each challenge naturally and effectively:
- Biotic’s WT (Water Treatment) solution was applied to improve water clarity, reduce TDS, and bring down COD/BOD levels, making the lake water safer and more sustainable.
- Biotic’s EMO-307 (Sludge Treatment) was used to digest accumulated organic sludge, reduce bottom-layer toxicity, and restore water volume.
- Biotic’s EMO Bio Culture introduced beneficial bacteria that suppressed harmful microbial growth, controlled odour, and restored the natural ecological balance of the lake.
- Additionally, artificial floating islands were created to support oxygenation, encourage biodiversity, and prevent future nutrient buildup.
Results
The results were truly unbelievable, as captured in the transformation video. The lake underwent a visible and measurable rejuvenation — sludge was cleared, odour was eliminated, water clarity improved significantly, and ecological indicators stabilised. With TDS, COD, and BOD levels reduced to acceptable ranges and microbial balance restored, JLT Lake is now a thriving, cleaner, and more sustainable waterbody. This successful project demonstrates Biotic’s capability to lead nature-based lake restoration at an international scale, in compliance with environmental standards and without the use of harsh chemicals.
